Shaun King Responds To Samaria Rice Controversy, Drops Receipts Implying Meeting May Have Been A Setup

Shaun King was a top trending topic on Twitter Wednesday after Tamir RIce’s mother Samaria Rice accused the activist of raising money in Tamir’s name without her permission following a conversation they had for his podcast.

Today, Shaun is firing back by sharing a thread of tweets made by another person who was apparently present for their meeting and witnessed the interaction between Shaun and Samaria Rice.

Despite Samaria’s allegations that everything that was said was “very toxic and uncomfortable” for her to hear, this third party alleged that everyone was “kind” and “sweet,” adding that Shaun apologized for raising money on behalf of Tamir at the request of Tamir’s uncle, who apparently no longer communicates with the family.

“I hate to even have to do this. I don’t even f**k with @ShaunKing, but something very dirty is happening to him right now,” the third party, who identified as an organizer in Cleveland, which is where Tamir and his family are from. “I saw the whole video of his Zoom meeting with Samaria Rice, staff of the Tamir Rice Foundation, and Shaun’s staff. Shaun was sweet from start to finish.”

The woman alleged that Shaun “very warmly apologized” to Samaria Rice for not being more physically present around her after Tamir was killed, but still helped from afar the best he could and Samaria allegedly said she understood.

Shaun apparently got lawyers and organizers to help Samaria, but then something went left.

“On God, @ShaunKing was over the top respectful to Samaria Rice and her staff from the moment the call started until it ended. He listened way more than he talked,” the woman, who went by the name of Nicole, said. “But when he spoke he didn’t even say a single word that somebody would perceive to be harsh or toxic. Nothing.”

Shaun also wrote a lengthy caption explaining his team warned him not to do the meeting for fear it was a setup.
