The Associated Press reports, the political official made the statement while speaking at the Milken Institute Global Conference.

Huchul’s remarks were intended to address the inequalities of technology in communities of color, however, her poor wording became the focus. Democratic Assemblywoman Amanda Septimo slammed the Governor’s remarks labeling them “harmful, deeply misinformed, and genuinely appalling.”

Contrastly, Bronx representative, New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, came to Hochul’s defense.  “While the governor’s words were artful and hurtful, I don’t believe that is where her heart is. I firmly believe she wants to see all of our students excel,” he claimed.

@mschkzContrary agreed stating, “to outdated beliefs, black kids are not only aware of computers but are actively engaging and excelling in technology. Representation matters. #Representationmatters.”

“These babies are born into the technology age. They know what a computer is,” @altonkiing noted.

@tishastraford wrote, “This is how some of these politicians REALLY think about us. It may seem like they are for us, but in actuality its out of an old antiquated or false perception of the black experience. All for the black vote…they cause people to PITY US, not respect us Smh.”

@huncho_exciii stated, “Hispanics make up 54.8% of the Bronz and they still used Black kids for this ignorance example smh lol.”

Governor Huchul’s Apology

Governor Huchul issued an apology, stating that she “regretted” her comments.

“Of course, Black children in the Bronx know what computers are,” she explained. The 65-year-old claimed the kids “lack access to the technology needed to get on track to high-paying jobs in emerging industries like AI.”

“That’s why I’ve been focused on increasing economic opportunity since Day One of my Administration, and will continue that fight to ensure every New Yorker has a shot at a good-paying job,” Hochul said.

I’m sorry is a good first step, but let’s see what Kathy actually does to help the Bronx babies.
