Smithsonian National Museum of African American History And Culture Reaches A New Milestone With 1 Million Visitors

The National Museum of African American History And Culture officially opened back in September of 2016, and already they are hitting new milestones.

According to WJLA, the museum announced on Monday that they have had one million visitors step through their doors within the past six months.

During the museums opening week, they offered 1,000 same day passes for people to visit the museum.

According to a release from the museum, on average, people reportedly spend six hours or more within the museum on the weekends. Where as people who visit the other museums only spend around two hours.

The release also stated that the success of the museum has contributed to the success of the museums restaurant, “Sweet Home Café,” which was named a semifinalist for the 2017 James Beard Foundation Awards for the best new restaurant.

Back in September during the museums opening, President Obama said, “This national museum helps to tell a richer and fuller story of who we are. By knowing this other story we better understand ourselves and each other. It binds us together. It reaffirms that all of us are America, that African-American history is not somehow separate from our larger American story. It is central to the American story.”
