As TikTok faces a potential ban in the U.S., Soulja Boy is fighting for it to stay. The rapper is even reaching out to Elon Musk, hoping the billionaire can help keep the app alive.
On Thursday, December 12, Soulja Boy hopped on X (formerly Twitter) with a pitch for Elon Musk. The ‘Crank Dat’ rapper suggested that the Tesla founder step in to save TikTok, as it may possibly get banned in the U.S.
“Yo @elonmusk what you think about buying TikTok? Or will running X and that platform be too much on the table?” Soulja wrote.
Elon Musk hasn’t responded to Soulja’s proposition yet, but his request did spark some reactions from social media users.
The Roommates had plenty to say about Soulja Boy’s suggestion to Elon Musk in The Shade Room’s comment section. Many weren’t feeling the idea, with folks claiming they don’t want Elon touching the app because they believe he would mess it up.

Lastly, Instagram user @martaruizdesigner wrote, “I do prefer for it to get ban if Elon buy it ”
Per TSR, the U.S. Court of Appeals in D.C. shut down TikTok’s attempt to overturn a law targeting its China-based parent company, ByteDance. The law demands TikTok cut ties with ByteDance or face a U.S. ban by mid-January. TikTok argued the rule trashs its First Amendment rights, but the court wasn’t buying it. Now, the video app and ByteDance plant to take their fight to the Supreme Court, though it’s unclear if the case will even make it there. Meanwhile, TikTok spokesperson Michael Hughes stays hopeful, saying the app will come out on top despite this loss.
The Supreme Court has an established historical record of protecting Americans right to free speech, and we expect they will do just that on this important constitutional issue. Unfortunately, the TikTok ban was conceived and pushed through based upon inaccurate, flawed, and hypothetical information, resulting in outright censorship of the American people,” Hughes said in a statement.
