Soulja Boy Arrested On Suspicion Of Weapons Charge During Los Angeles Traffic Stop

After a traffic stop, Soulja Boy was arrested early Sunday (August 3). Officers detained him on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. The 35-year-old rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was a passenger during the stop.

More Details About Soulja Boy’s Arrest

Police said, per the Associated Press, that cops pulled over the vehicle Soulja Boy was in at 2:35 a.m. He was subsequently arrested. Officials booked him into jail in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division a little after 6 a.m., the sheriff department’s inmate database shows.Police have said that they have no additional information on what prompted themto make the stop. It’s also unclear who the driver was or who else was in the vehicle.

A representative for Soulja Boy did not immediately respond to The Associated Press’ request for comment. More details will be provided upon availability. It’s unclear if he’s still behind bars.

The Chicago hip-hop artist is best known for his 2007 single “Crank That (Soulja Boy),” which went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and brought him a Grammy nomination for best rap song.

Rapper Ordered To Pay Victim $4M In Separate Case

Soulja Boy was recently ordered to pay more $4 million in damages in April. The court found him liable for sexually assaulting and physically and emotionally abusing a former assistant known as ‘Jane Doe.’ The trial included evidence such as photos of bruises and texts of Soulja telling the woman to “die” and that he should have “killed your stupid a*s.” She also alleged a toxic workplace, claiming Soulja Boy did things like lock her up in a room with no food for days. Jane Doe’s lawyer asked for $73.6 million during the closing arguments.

Another Male Celebrity Was In Cuffs Recently

Soulja Boy isn’t the only one who ended up in cuffs at the top of August. Over the weekend, Duke Dennis also got bagged by cops at a mall in San Antonio. A viral video shows the arrest, which included the 31-year-old being pressed up against the floor. Early reports stated he’s facing charges for criminal trespassing and evading arrest. His mugshot has since surfaced online amid widespread reactions.
