Target Under Fire After Magnets In Stores Falsely Represent Black Icons | TSR Investigates

Tierra Espy, a high school history teacher in Las Vegas, is going viral for her recent visit to a Target location. The teacher reportedly bought civil rights learning kits for her students.

However, she’s now alleging that the kits contain major errors.

Now, The Shade Room’s Justin Carter is investigating the alleged mistake for ‘TSR Investigates.’

More Details Regarding Tierra Espy’s Trip To Target

According to Carter, Espy visited the discount section at her local Target store on January 27. She purchased learning kits for students titled “Civil Rights Magnetic Learning Activity.”

However, the teacher noticed significant discrepancies when she opened the kits.

Espy noticed that historian W. E. B. Du Bois had been mistaken for author Carter G. Woodson, and author Booker T. Washington had been mistaken for W. E. B. Du Bois and author Carter G. Woodson had been mistaken for Booker T. Washington.

“I get it, mistakes happen, but this needs to be corrected ASAP,” Espy told viewers via a TikTok uploaded on January 30, which has since garnered over 1.5 million views.

While speaking with Carter, the teacher explained she didn’t intend to have such a profound impact.

“But I think if Target’s removing it, then they’re doing what they’re supposed to do,” she said. “You make a mistake; you correct it.”

Here’s How Target Appears To Have Since The Teacher’s Viral Video

Carter visited two Target stores based in Atlanta and found the products to be removed. Additionally, Target even shared a statement with The Shade Room.

“We will no longer be selling this product in stores or online. We’ve also ensured the product’s publisher is aware of the errors,” the statement reads.

Scroll above to watch as Carter follows up with the Ohio-based publisher, Bendon Publishing, for their statement on the matter and continues to speak with Espy about how else the kits are misleading.
