Roommates, we’ve all had that moment when sleep becomes too powerful to ignore. It starts with heavy eyelids then your neck might slowly drop before a slight jump shakes you awake again. That’s the moment you realize you’ve dozed off unintentionally. It’s a common occurrence among humans when we tire. However, your moment can easily go viral if you’re a senator slap-boxing with sleep during the president’s address to Congress. That’s exactly the case for Senator Ted Cruz.
On Wednesday evening, President Joe Biden addressed Congress with multiple initiatives and plans to alleviate and elevate the American people. This is customary for sitting presidents. Typically, network cameras from media outlets across the country span to Democratic and Republican lawmakers to grab reactions. Well, near the end of President Biden’s hour-long speech, cameras caught Ted nodding off.
In the many clips shared online, Ted’s eyelids opened slowly before appearing to roll back into head. This continued on for a few seconds. Unfortunately for Ted, his infamous moment happened as Joe called for communication between both political parties over key issues like immigration. People reports that immigration is a “key issue” in Texas, which is the state Ted represents.
Following the speech, Ted responded to the viral moment with a retweet of the sleepy time clip. He captioned his post “#BoringBut Radical” in reference to his thoughts about Biden’s speech.
In his speech, Biden spoke on key issues such as raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour. He stated that no one working 40 hours a week should live below the poverty line. As we previously reported,the national minimum wage is $7.25 and has not been raised since 2009.
Biden also took the prime opportunity to honor the beloved George Floyd and call for police reform.
My fellow Americans, we have to come together to rebuild trust between law enforcement and the people they serve, to root out systemic racism in our criminal justice system and to enact police reform in George Floyds name that passed the House alreadywe need to work together to find a consensus, but lets get it done next month by the first anniversary of George Floyds death, President Joe Biden said.
George’s murderer Derek Chauvin was convicted on three counts of murder and manslaughter early last week. Derek’s sentencing date is set for June 2021.
