Roommates, we are praying for the family and friends of a Texas woman who was fatally shot by a police officer in Baytown, Texas.
During the encounter, which was captured on video, the woman can be heard shouting “I’m pregnant” several times before the officer pointed his weapon at her.
According to khou 11, the officer was attempting to arrest the 44-year old woman at an apartment complex, who he had allegedly had ‘run-ins’ with several times.
Baytown Police Department Lt. Steve Dorris told the local news affiliate that the officer involved was patrolling the apartment complex, and had previous encounters with the same woman. Apparently, the officer approached her and she began to struggle with him.
The officer then used his taser on the woman, and proceeded to arrest her. As he was attempting to take her into custody, the officer claims the woman got control of the taser and used it on him. The officer reportedly pulled his gun and shot the woman at least once.
Police claim the officer tried to get the woman help, but she died on the scene.
The officer’s name has not been released, but Lt. Dorris said he is an 11-year-veteran of the force.
“This is the first shooting this officer has been involved in,” Dorris said. “We’ll be out for some time to reconstruct the events and get questions answered.”
The Harris County DA’s Office is assisting in the investigation, and the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.
