All the way live! Things are slowly starting to get back to normal. Several businesses like Target, Macys, Best Buy, and others adhere to the CDCs updated guideline that fully vaccinated individuals can engage in activities without wearing a mask. It seems like guidelines will also affect award shows. The BET Awards is one of the biggest African-American awards shows, and they are preparing to return in the upcoming months safely.
Today BET announced that the BET Awards would be held live on Sunday, June 27th, from the Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live with a fully vaccinated audience. BET plans on working very closely with Los Angeles County to support community verification efforts. Also, to ensure that COVID-19 protocols are followed. Registration for vaccinated individuals will begin on May 27th through BETs website.
Scott Mills, BETs President, said he hopes the announcement will help bring additional vaccination awareness. Since the beginning of the pandemic, BET has been at the forefront of recovery efforts for our community, turning entertainment touch points into opportunities to empower our audiences and help combat the disproportionate impacts of COVID-19, Mills said. Vaccination rates among Black Americans are significantly lower than other communities. We are committed to using our signature programming event The BET Awards to encourage vaccination in our community.
Although last years show was prerecorded and hosted by Amanda Seals, it was ranked the number one cable award show among viewers ages 18 to 49, according to Varitety. Ya’ll know how Black Twitter cuts up during award show season! Over 3.7 million total viewers tuned in to see DaBaby, Lil Baby, Summer Walker, Usher, and others perform. While there hasnt been an announcement of who is set to perform or any award nominees, Im sure some heavy hitters will be nominated as tons of music has been released lately.
Roommates, are ya’ll going to try to be in the building for the award show?
