Roommates, for all of you fans of “The Chi” I have a bit of bad news for you. For a while now, there have been questions about how Showtime planned on dealing with the recent firing of Jason Mitchell amongst complaints of his behavior behind the scenes. Well, wonder no more! Brandon Johnson, who is played by actor Jason Mitchell, will reportedly be killed off in season three.
Mitchell was fired from the Showtime drama series back in May after a few of his co-stars expressed concern with his behavior on set. “The Chi” actress Tiffany Boone, who played Mitchell’s on-screen love interest was one of the people that vocalized concern about Mitchell’s actions. By the time the issues surrounding his behavior were brought to show creator Lena Waithe, the show had already been renewed for a third season.
Now, while the specifics of Mitchell’s reported behavior have not be made public knowledge, Ayanna Flyod who was the showrunner of ”The Chi” season two, issued a statement saying, that Waithe as well as the studio behind the show, Fox 21, were made aware of the issue before the production of season two began.
In a statement provided to The Wrap Floyd said, “When I took the helm in Season 2, it was Lena who informed me of the issues between Jason Mitchell and Tiffany Boone from Season 1, and that Tiffany was thinking of leaving the show because of it. As a result of this information, I discussed Tiffany’s claims with the studio’s HR department and set up HR presentations for the writers, cast and crew. Ultimately, everyone was well aware of Jason’s behavior and his multiple HR cases, including Lena, the creator and an executive producer of the show, who is very involved at the studio and network level.”
She continued, “As showrunner, I did everything I could to deal with his behavior, by speaking with the Studio’s HR department multiple times and instructing one actress to call HR herself, before I became a target of his rage and inappropriateness, and had to report him to HR, as well,”
In addition to being released from “The Chi,” Mitchell was also released from the Netflix film “Desperados.”
