The Live ‘Good Times’ Cast Has Been Announced

These live shows the networks have been so pressed about lately have honestly been hit or miss but it seems people have a little more faith in the upcoming live version of the classic “Good Times” after the cast was announced today.

ABC got some real heavy-hitters to play Florida and James Evans. Emmy winners Viola Davis and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s” Andre Braugher will head the cast of the Good Times episode, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Tiffany Haddish, Jay Pharoah, Corinne Foxx and “When They See Us” stars Asante Blackk and Jharrel Jerome will round out the ensemble cast.

To throw some even more Black star power on this production, Anthony Anderson and the legendary Patti LaBelle will perform the show’s theme song during the live special. Black Twitter has responded and it sounds like people very much approve of the casting decisions.

It seems there’s a lot of anticipation for the star-studded episode, even though some fans expressed they still eye Porshia Williams for Thelma’s role.

The live show will come as an early Christmas present for many as it’s set to air December 18th on ABC. This live episode follows a successful May staging of episodes of “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons,” which drew more than 10 million viewers for its first airing and grew to more than 12 million with delayed viewing.

Jay Pharoah will play the Evans’ eldest son J.J. (Jimmie Walker in the original), who is known for his “Dy-no-mite!” catchphrase. Corrine Foxx and Asante Blackk will play kids Thelma and Michael Evans, and Tiffany Haddish will play neighbor Wilona Woods, originally played by Ja’net Dubois. However, Jharell Jerome’s role is being kept a secret for some reason.

Roomies, let us know if you’ll be tuning in for this star-studded live version of “Good Times.”
