The Mother Of Atatiana Jefferson Has Died Just Two Months After Her Father’s Death

Roommates, we have sad news to report. After her untimely death back in October at the hands of a Dallas police officer followed by the death of her father due to a heart attack, the mother of the late Atatiana Jefferson has just passed away due to an unspecified illness according to the family’s attorney.

The family’s attorney Lee Merritt confirmed that Yolanda Carr, Atatiana Jefferson’s mother, passed away in her home in the early morning hours on January 9th after a reported illness that has not been publicly disclosed. Carr’s death is only two months after Atatiana’s father, Marquis Jefferson, died of a heart attack, although many believe the cause was simply a broken heart due to losing his daughter so tragically.

Merritt posted the following message about Carr’s death on Twitter:

“We just learned Yolanda Carr, the mother of #AtatianaJefferson, passed away in her home early Thursday morning. Atatiana was killed by a Fort Worth, TX police officer while serving as the caregiver for Ms. Carr who had recently taken ill. Memorial Service details will follow.”

The Fort Worth police officer who killed Atatiana, Aaron Dean, was indicted by a grand jury just last month for her murder. At the time, Carr responded to the indictment of her daughter’s killer in an interview with the Dallas Morning News, saying “We’re going to miss her this Christmas. I’m so glad that they finally indicted that man on murder ’cause he murdered my baby. She didn’t do anything wrong.”

As you’ll recall, Atatiana Jefferson was inside of her home playing video games with her 8-year-old nephew when former police officer Aaron Dean entered her backyard and shot her when she looked out her window. The incident initially occurred due to a neighbor calling the police requesting a welfare check after noticing the door to Atatiana’s home was open.

We want to continue to keep Atatiana’s family in our prayers.

Roommates, what are your thoughts on this?
