The Academy Set To Pay Tribute To Kobe Bryant At The Oscars

The 92nd Academy Awards are right around the corner, and on Tuesday, it was announced that the Academy is planning a special tribute to Kobe Bryant.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a source revealed that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is planning a tribute for the basketball legend at this year’s ceremony, which is taking place on February 9th.

Kobe won his first Oscar back in 2018 for his five-minute autobiographical short film “Dear Basketball,” which he wrote, executive produced and narrated.

According to the New York Post, the news of the upcoming tribute was also confirmed by Oscars announcer Randy Thomas. He confirmed the news during an interview on the syndicated radio show, “The Sam Alex Show.”

After Kobe’s shocking passing was announced on Sunday, the Academy paid tribute to him on their Instagram the following day and said, “They doubted a kid could make it in the NBA and he proved them wrong. They doubted he could win a championship and he proved them wrong. They doubted he could make movies and he won an Oscar. Like all great artists, Kobe Bryant proved the doubters wrong. Rest in peace.”

As mentioned before there have been many tributes to Kobe, his daughter Gianna and the seven others that were lost in the helicopter crash that took place in Calabasas on Sunday. Aside from that, many of Kobe’s peers from within the NBA have been sharing some of their fondest memories of him in the wake of tragic passing.
