Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, has become popular overseas, but now the musical will make its way to New York City on Broadway.
According to Deadline, Stage Entertainment confirmed on Wednesday that the musical based on the life of the Whats Love Got To Do With It singer would arrive on Broadway next fall.
The musical first made its world premiere earlier this year in April at Londons Aldwych Theatre.
Tina Turner expressed her excitement and said, Bringing this musical to life on stage and working with this team has meant so much to me, I feel that it is in many ways a culmination of my career. London audiences have been and continue to be extraordinary. Now, the bright lights of Broadway are calling, and Im very excited to share this beautiful show with New York audiences next year.
The musical follows Turners humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her transformation into the global Queen of Rock n Roll.
Producers expect to announce casting, the venue and performance dates within the upcoming months.
Actress Angela Bassett is most known for portraying turner in the 1993 biopic Whats Love Go To Do With It, which earned Bassett an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Lawrence Fishburne, who portrayed Ike Turner, also earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
