Tory Lanez’s Wife Reportedly Files For Divorce While He Remains Incarcerated

A woman named Raina Chassagne gagged social media on Monday (June 10) when reports surfaced of her pending divorce from Tory Lanez. Folks online were stunned to find out that the incarcerated rapper was married and his union was quickly coming to an end.

According to TMZ, Tory and Raina tied the knot on June 25, 2023. Last week, just days before their one-year anniversary, Raina filed for divorce. She reportedly listed “irreconcilable differences” as the reason behind their split.

Details About Divorce Petition That Tory Lanez’s Wife Filed

Despite getting married, Raina kept her last name (Chassagne) rather than taking Tory’s. The Canadian native’s legal name is Daystar Peterson.

Note that Raina isn’t a complete stranger to the Tory Lanez fan base. She is the mother of Tory’s only son, Kai’lon Peterson. In her divorce petition, Raina is seeking legal and physical custody of the seven-year-old. TMZ reports that the mother has made efforts to maintain the daddy-son bond by taking Kai to visit Tory in prison.

No additional details about the split or their “differences” have been reported. Details about their former relationship are also scarce. Neither Tory Lanez nor his representation has publicly reacted to the news.

What’s Else Is Going On With Tory?

For context, Raina and Tory Lanez got married just six months after a jury found him guilty of first-degree assault, discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, and carrying a concealed and unregistered firearm in a vehicle. The charges are related to a highly publicized case involving Megan Thee Stallion, who testified that Tory shot at her in the California neighborhood, striking at least one of her feet.

Then, in August 2023, a judge sentenced Tory to 10 years in prison. It had been less than two months since Raina and Tory had exchanged vows.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the time, an eyewitness claimed that his then-wife left the courtroom “in tears” after the sentencing made her “visibly shaken.”

According to BET, Tory filed an appeal to overturn his conviction in February of this year. His lawyer at the time cited “erroneous admission of evidence” and “prosecutorial misconduct.” The filing was reportedly 103 pages long.

“Prosecutors made multiple improper appeals to emotion and sympathy [for Megan Thee Stallion during closing arguments],” Tory’s attorneys argued. They added that sympathy should “have had no beating” in their client’s innocence or guilt in the case.

Updates on that appeal are still pending.
