Trae Young Reveals His Engagement To College Sweetheart With Proposal Photos

Trae Young and his college sweetheart are wrapping up 2021 with visions of walking down the aisle! That’s right, congratulations are in order. Trae and Shelby have elevated from boyfriend-girlfriend to engaged status. The Atlanta Hawks player recently shared photos to Instagram of the moment he proposed.

Engagement Photos

On Thursday night, Trae posted four pictures along with the caption, “What a night #FutureMrsYoung.” Majority of the photos show the engaged pair posing in front of a blue-and-white balloon arch. White flower petals also covered the floor. Floating, lit candles in vases adorned the ends of the balloon arch.

Behind the smiles and joyful tears, a display screen is mounted on the wall. In the first picture, Trae kneels in front of Shelby. She covers her mouth with one hand in obvious surprise.

Trae is wearing a black slacks and jacket combo paired with white designer shoes and a dark grey tee. His fianceé wore a short, black dress with long sleeves and ankle boots.

In another image, Trae and Shelby hold each other in a tight embrace. Shelby has an overjoyed expression on her face in the form of a smile.

She also shows off her new bling in the remaining two photos– one alongside Trae and the other a close-up of the engagement rock. The ring is oval-shaped with a large diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds and a diamond band.

How They Met

According to WSB-TV Atlanta, Trae and Shelby met during their enrollment at the University of Oklahoma. They’ve been a couple since 2017. Shelby spent time as a member of the university’s cheerleading squad. Meanwhile, Trae played one season with the Sooners team. In 2018, he joined the university team at the NCAA Tournament. That same year, the Atlanta Hawks picked up the player at the NBA Draft after a trade.

By Saturday, more than 800,000 people liked Trae’s Instagram announcement.
