Trayvon’s Martin’s Mother, Sybrina Fulton, Has Just Announced Her Run For Office In Miami!

Roommates, Sybrina Fulton was launched into the spotlight after her son Trayvon Martin was gunned down in 2012. Now, she wants to use her influence as part of the Mayor’s commission in Miami.
According to the Miami Herald, Sybrina has officially announced her run for a seat on the Miami-Dade County Commission. After fighting for justice for her son for the past seven years, she feels she’s more than qualified.
“Since 2012, I have advocated tirelessly to empower our communities and make them safer,” she said in a statement. “But the work is not done. i am proud to announce that I will run to represent District 1 on the county commission.”
Sybrina formally announced her run on Monday, and plans on running on the platform of gun-control measures that would restrict private gun sales and enforce strict background checks.
“Our county must continue moving forward so our families are safe from violence, can afford to live in Miami-Dade, and have access to good paying jobs,” she said in her statement. “I am ready to take on these issues and many others in county government.”
Since Trayvon’s passing, Sybrina has dedicated the last seven years advocating for an end to gun violence and promoting social justice. After Trayvon’s killer, George Zimmerman, was acquitted for the murder, Sybrina became a full-time advocate.
The Trayvon Martin Foundation has launched initiatives to “empower families and communities through violence prevention, mental health access and awareness, and education the community’s children,” the foundation says.
We wish Sybrina luck in her run and hope she can manage to make some change in her city!
