TSR Positive Images:Muslim Woman Gets Sworn In As Judge Using A Holy Quran

When you’re black AND Muslim AND a woman, breaking barriers at the end of a very racially and gender-challenged year, you deserve to brag, okay?!

Well Carolyn Walker-Diallo, an African-American, Muslim woman was recently elected and sworn in as civil judge for the 7th Municipal District in Brooklyn.

To some it may be like, “okay, and?” But to others, Carolyn’s latest achievement is monumental; especially with the turmoil 2015 brought. But wait! She wasn’t only just sworn in, she was sworn in with a Holy Quran as opposed to a traditional Holy Bible.

We hear that she began her legal career at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley and McCloy LLP, as a litigation associate. She attributes her parents’ involvement and proactive role in the East New York and Cypress Hills communities for her own drive and force in the community and legal world.

Along her path, she created the East New York Youth Court, a program that trains 13-18 year-olds on how to serve as legal officers like judges, clerks, attorneys, jurors, and bailiffs, using real cases which involved their peers.

It seems Carolyn was just always destined for greatness!

Like Carolyn, there were people before her who began a breakthrough. Back in ’92, the very first Muslim woman judge, Sheila Abdus-Salaam, was appointed and STILL sits on the New York State Supreme Court. And then in 2006, Charlene Mekled Elder was appointed 3rd Circuit Court of Wayne County, Michigan.

YES to the women barrier breakers of both the Muslim community, the black community! How does that tickle your fancy, Mr. Trump?!
