#TSRPositiveImages: 11 Year Old Marley Dias Named Editor-In-Residence For Elle After Launching #1000BlackGirlBooks!

Earlier his year, 11 year old Marley Dias set out to collect and donate 1000 books which featured black girls as main characters. She decided to do this, because she was bored of the stories she was assigned and was generally sick of reading about “white boys and dogs” in books like “Where the Red Fern Grows” and “Shiloh.” Dias ended up raising over 1000 #BlackGirlBooks and now her big project has landed her an editor-in-residence position with Elle Magazine!

“In the blink of an eye, I’ve gone from being a book nerd in West Orange, New Jersey, to an Editor-in-Residence in New York City,” Dias writes of her new position. “I’ve always said that books have taken me on many adventures, but none of those adventures have been quite like this one. This isn’t a dystopian novel or a fantasy. It’s my real life. I, Marley Emerson Dias, have gotten the chance of a lifetime. I’m creating a brand-new zine for one of the most-read magazines in the world.” Wow, what a vocabulary for an 11-year old!

This young lady has tons of ambition along with that vocabulary, so we definitely can’t wait to see how impactful she’ll be in the future!

Congratulations, Marley!
