Our #Houston Roommates held it down for us at #TheBIG3 season 2 opener on Friday!! 16,341 BIG3 fans packed out the #ToyotaCenter along with some of the city’s biggest and brightest stars such as #IceCube, #BunB and #PaulWall who assisted with our 100-ticket giveaway! The game got so lit that Mayor #SylvesterTurner declared June 22 “Clyde Drexler Day” in honor of the NBA legend who also serves as the league’s commissioner.

Everyone was anticipating for the festivities to begin all week, however, Ice Cube’s sweet gesture towards a group of single mothers was the most heartwarming moment of the week! On Wednesday, he visited Houston’s Scenic Woods Public Library to surprise a group of 50 single mothers and their kids with free tickets to the BIG3 game!

“We got to salute the single mothers, so I’m here to spread a little love,” Ice Cube told @ABC7. “We’ve got the BIG3 game here in Houston on Friday. We wanted to give some free tickets away and let them have a night to enjoy themselves, free of charge. “The ladies and their children were able to have a meet-and-great with Ice Cube complete with pictures. In addition to the single mothers, Ice Cube arranged for students who were affected by the Sante Fe High School shooting last month to be bused to the game for free.

The games brought to a close and incredible week as the BIG3 league made a special effort to give back to a city that has endured hardships over the past year. Earlier this week, Ice Cube and Commissioner Clyde Drexler also joined Mayor Sylvester Turner at City Hall to announce plans to refurbish a community basketball court in the Mayor’s neighborhood of Winzer Park.

BIG3 also launched the Young3 league which is their brand new youth initiative in partnership with Adidas. The program, directed by Jerome ‘Junk Yard Dog’ Williams featured skills clinics and a three-on-three tournament for kids ages 7-14. Hosted in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club at the Holthouse Club, the full day event featured a block party with music, games, and food trucks.

The next game is Friday in Chicago at the United Center at 6pm and will also be live on Fox! Will you guys be watching?!
