#TSRPositiveImages: Meek Mill Honored With Social Justice Award At NYU’s McSilver Institute

Since his release from prison last year, Meek Mill has been adamant about using his platform to fight for criminal justice reform. Understanding what’s it’s like to face injustice in the justice system, Meek has been using his platform for the greater good.

On Monday, he was one of the six honorees recognized for his efforts at NYU’s McSilver Institute as he received the Vanguard for Social Justice Award.

According to Complex, Meek said in a statement, “I’m honored by this recognition. When I was released from prison last year, I knew I had a responsibility to use my voice to speak up for the voiceless and fight for criminal justice reform. Change will take time, but me and my team at the REFORM Alliance are committed to making a real difference and fixing a broken justice system.”

According to the institute’s website, each year “the McSilver Awards recognizes outstanding individuals who are transforming systems to address the needs of individuals, families, and communities living in poverty, locally and globally.”

Aside from using his voice and resources to help others, Meek has also been experiencing some wins when it comes to his own case.

Recently, he was granted a new court hearing with a new judge. Following the news, Meek’s attorney, Jordan Siev said in a statement, “We’re looking forward to the oral argument before the Superior Court of Pennsylvania and to, hopefully, having Meek’s conviction vacated. In light of the District Attorney’s, recent filing, where he supports the granting of a new trial to Meek and the recusal of Judge Brinkley, we hope to have this injustice rectified once and for all.”

Congrats to Meek Mill on his latest honor!
