#TSRPositiveImages: New Jersey Principal Has Installed Washing Machines To Combat Bullying Of Students With Dirty Uniforms

One #Newark, New Jersey, principal is being proactive in his approach to fight bullying at his school by helping students who are teased for their dirty uniforms. #WestSideHighSchool Principal #AkbarCook, says some of his students who were bullied for that would end up skipping school, in some cases missing three to five days a month for fear of being bullied, according to @abc7ny.

He says one time a student didn’t want her bags checked while entering the school because she was embarrassed to be carrying dirty clothes while she was homeless. Cook took action by turning the football team’s locker room into a wash house for students to do their laundry.

Cook has only been on the job for two weeks, #Roomies! And when word of Cook’s good deed went viral, the community started to donate laundry detergent and dryer sheets so students can do their laundry for free.

The laundry room will be open for students Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting Aug. 27th. “When school starts on September the 4th, my kids will be able to use it daily after school,” Cook said.

What do you think of this unique way to battle bullying, #Roommates? Let us know!
