#TSRPositiveImages: Philando Castiles mother continues to honor her sons legacy by doing the type of good deeds he did.
Just as a reminder about Philandos story, he was a former St. Paul, Minnesota, cafeteria supervisor who was fatally shot by St. Anthony police during a traffic stop that was captured on Facebook Live.
He was loved by the community and school he worked in and was known for giving back to his kids. Now, his mother Valerie Castile and his family are picking up where Philando left off by donating $8,000 to help clear the lunch debts of graduating seniors at #RobbinsdaleCooperHighSchool, @cbsminnesota reports.
The money, which came from the Philando Castile Relief Foundation, cleared the debts of ALL senior students, allowing them to graduate without any stress this spring.
This is something that Philando held near and dear to his heart, Valerie Castile said.
She says her son was known for helping out students in need.
Hed pay for childrens lunch meals out of his own pocket instead of letting a child go hungry that day he would pay for it himself, she said.
The unpaid bills is over $300,000 now in our district and we also see this through the state, said Carlton Jenkins, superintendent of Robbinsdale Area Schools. …For those students to know that they can graduate now without having a bill, I cant tell you how big it is, Jenkins said.
This isnt the first donation Philandos mom has given in his name. Castile also donated $10,000 on behalf of her sons foundation to the school where Philando worked as a cafeteria supervisor and was known affectionately by students as Mr. Phil.
As long as we can help, we will, Castile said.
It feels really, really good because I know hes watching us, she added.
We applaud Philandos mothers actions in continuing to help Minnesotas youth and are happy that his giving spirit lives on through her!
