Attorneys representing the family of #BothamJean say they have served notice to the City Of #Dallas informing officials they plan to sue.
@Fox4news reports the attorneys are saying the lawsuit will argue that Jeans civil rights were violated when off-duty Dallas Police Officer #AmberGuyger went into his apartment and fatally shot him, thinking she was encountering an intruder in her apartment, which she claims she mistook for Jeans.
Guyger, who lived one floor below Jean, was fired from the police department on Monday by Dallas Police Chief #ReneeHall. She has also been charged with manslaughter, but the charge could change once the case is reviewed by a grand jury.
As we previously reported, many people have criticized Guygers story including Allie Jean, Botham Jeans mother, who said, Somebody has to be crazy not to realize that they walked into the wrong apartment. Hes a bachelor. Things are different inside. She continued, And if you try your key and it doesnt work, that should make you realize youre at the wrong apartment. Every door for each apartment is also numbered.
Since the shooting multiple search warrants were issued for Bothams apartment, and his lawyers are upset about one of the warrants becoming a public record. Out of all the warrants issued, his lawyers find it interesting that the one the judge signed off on to make public was one that lists several items found in his home, including marijuana.
Bothams family lawyers werent even given a heads up that the warrant was now out there for everyone to access. His attorneys claim that it doesnt matter whose marijuana it is at the end of the day because hes the victim in all of this.
Jean, who is a native of St. Lucia, graduated from Harding University in Arkansas in 2016. He remained in the states after getting an internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Dallas, where he worked in the risk assurance department.
