Tupac Shakur is posthumously being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. According to CBS News, the organization shared the announcement on Wednesday.

Hollywood Walk Of Fame Producer, Ana Martinez, Shared The Announcement Wednesday

According to the outlet, Ana Martinez, a producer for the organization, shared the news via Twitter on Wednesday. In the tweet, Martinez shared a photo of Tupac with a brief description regarding the upcoming ceremony.

“Tupac Shakur to be honored with the 2,758th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!”

Martinez also captioned the tweet with additional ceremony details.

“Ceremony will be held on June 7, at 10:30 am Catch livestream at walkoffame.com #WalkofFame

In addition, the organization also shared an official press release regarding the event. According to the release, radio personality Big Boy will emcee the event. While guest speakers will include Director Allen Hughes, Jamal Joseph, and Tupac’s sister, Sekyiwa Shakur, who will accept the star on Shakur’s behalf.

The release also includes more information about why the decision was made to honor Shakur.

“Tupac Shakur was a rapper, actor, activist, poet, and revolutionary.  This iconic artist has continued to be part of the zeitgeist for decades after his passing and will continue to be an important cultural figure for many years to come… The late Tupac Shakur is an internationally recognized artist renowned for his work, defying distinction between art and activism. Though his career lasted just five years, Tupac Shakur remains one of the most complex and prolific artists of his generation with over 75 million records sold worldwide…”

Additionally, the release explains that Shakur continues to have a massive impact on pop culture today, despite his passing; citing his hologram performance at the 2012 Coachella festival, his “spoken word appearance” on Kendrick Lamar’s ‘To Pimp A Butterfly,’ and the multiple immersive museum experiences created in his honor.

The Honor Arrives About A Week Ahead Of Tupac’s 52nd Birthday

As CBS News, reported, Tupac Shakur was murdered in 1996 at the age of 25. This posthumous honor arrives about a week ahead of what would have been the rapper’s 52nd birthday.

However, this is not the only birthday gift the late rapper will receive. In addition, Shakur will also be honored with a street named after him in Oakland California. It will be called “Tupac Shakur Way.”
