Two HBCUs Received Bomb Threats Today, No Immediate Reports Of Injury

Authorities are investigating bomb threats made to historically black colleges Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, and Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana.

Both schools evacuated their students and classes were canceled Wednesday. There were no immediate reports of injury.

By late afternoon, TSU officials announced officers gave the all-clear, though classes remained cancelled for the evening. Grambling officials were still investigating the threat. There’s no word on a suspect or if the two bomb threats are connected.

“TSU Police Department has issued an “all clear” for the TSU campus. All evening classes remain cancelled. The University of Houston basketball game on campus for this evening will be played as schedule. TSU will have normal operations tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 29. #TexasSouthern,” TSU officials tweeted.

A Houston police Emergency Center call taker received the threat about 1:40 p.m. At that point, police requested the university to evacuate and have all remaining classes for the day cancelled. All buildings, including the dorms, had to be evacuated.

As for Grambling, university officials say the bomb threat was made in Grambling Hall. They asked everyone to evacuate the building and areas within 300 feet immediately.

“Bomb Threat in Grambling Hall, Please evacuate building and areas within 300 feet immediately. Call (318) 274-2222 to report suspicious activity,” the university tweeted. “GSU Police and local agencies are investigating a bomb threat to GSU’s Grambling Hall. Please call (318) 274-2222 to report suspicious activity.”

All evening classes have been cancelled at Grambling as the investigation continues. They also let their students with meal plans or those who usually dine in the cafeteria know that carryout dining was their only option for the night.

We pray for the safety of TSU and GSU’s students and will keep you posted on any updates, #Roommates.
