We’ve all seen some interesting and creative #Promproposals, however, a particular proposal has social media talking, and not in a good way! Two South Florida students asked their friend to prom with a sign saying, “You may be picking cotton, but we’re picking you to go to prom with us.”
Now, the problem with this is that the two girls who asked were white, and their friend was black, so it’s not surprising that their proposal wasn’t received well on social media. The backlash was so extreme that the two girls have been suspended from their high school.
The girls apologized for the photo and one of the teens’ father said that this is just a big understanding.
According to WPLG, he said the sign was an inside joke because the black teen is heir to her grandmother’s cotton farm. He also said that no one was supposed to see it.
