Yall know when Tyler Perry steps in, he doesnt do anything halfway and this time, the billionaire filmmaker is once again putting his money where his heart is. While the nation braces for the ripple effects of a government shutdown, millions of Americans are facing the possibility of losing a crucial lifeline. While the Supreme Court has now blocked a major funding order, Perry is making sure families dont go hungry.
According to PEOPLE, the 56-year-old entertainment mogul has donated nearly $1.4 million to several organizations helping families impacted by the loss of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. His generous donation is being spread across groups like the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Baby2Baby, Meals on Wheels Atlanta, Caring for Others, All for Lunch, Ron Clark Academy, and Goodr all of which focus on fighting hunger and supporting families in need.
Perry told PEOPLE exclusively, If youve never been poor, then you may not fully understand the life-changing impact SNAP benefits mean to hard-working people, to our seniors, and to our children. For millions of people, it could mean extreme hunger. For newborns, it could mean a lack of access to formula.
Fans wasted no time running to The Shade Rooms comment section to praise Tyler Perry for his generosity. Many reminded folks that he never forgot where he came from, while others sent prayers that he continues to be blessed for always giving back. And as one commenter put it, you can say what you want about Tyler Perry, but youll never make some people hate that man.

The Supreme Court just stepped in and hit pause on a major order that wouldve forced the Trump administration to fully fund SNAP benefits during the ongoing government shutdown. According to reports, a lower court had ruled that the administration must release full SNAP payments. Additionally, the court placed a deadline of November 7. But officials argued they simply dont have enough cash in the emergency fund to cover everyone.
After a Boston appeals court declined to get involved, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson stepped up late Friday and temporarily blocked the lower court’s order. Her move pauses the full-funding requirement until the appeals court decides whether to keep it on hold longer. The pause will stick for at least 48 hours after that decision, giving the administration time to circle back to the Supreme Court if needed.
