Tyler Perry’s New Studio To Host 2019 Miss Universe Pageant

It hasn’t even been officially open for a full month yet, but Tyler Perry’s new $250 million Atlanta movie studio has been selected as the site for another big event. A few weeks ago, it was announced that the studio would be home to the upcoming democratic debate—and now, the Miss Universe Pageant is next on the list.

@Deadline reports, Tyler Perry’s studio will officially host the 2019 Miss Universe Pageant. The three-hour-competition will be hosted by Steve Harvey, who’s returning for the fifth year in a row. It will be broadcast live from Tyler’s studio on December 8th on the FOX network.

The newly unveiled studio, located on the 330-acre 12-stage facility of the former Fort McPherson Army Base in Atlanta, is also home to Tyler’s two newest series on BET, “Sistas” and “The Oval.” Both shows are among the first projects stemming from his massive film and TV deal with Viacom that he inked back in 2017.

Paula M. Shugart, President of The Miss Universe Organization, expressed what the pageant means for young women:

“The Miss Universe telecast is distributed to more than 170 countries. We have always been proud to give a global platform to diverse, ambitious and strong young women – our leaders of tomorrow.”

The Miss Universe Pageant will feature women representing more than 90 countries competing in multiple categories, including personal statement, swimsuit, evening gown and interview. The evening will end with the reigning Miss Universe, Catriona Gray from the Philippines, crowning this year’s winner.
