Tyrese To Star As Teddy Pendergrass In New Biopic

It looks like a biopic about the legendary singer Teddy Pendergrass is on the way. Warner Bros has acquired the life rights of the late singer, and Tyrese Gibson, who personally knew Pendergrass, is set to star in the lead role.

According to Deadline, Donald De Line is set to produce the project, along with Lee Daniels, and Tyrese. Joan Pendergrass, Teddy’s widow, will also serve as an executive producer. Little Marvin has been tapped to write the screenplay for the project.

Tyrese expressed his excitement to play Teddy Pendergrass and said, “I am honored to take this journey… this is the role that I feel I was born to play. Teddy Pendergrass embraced me and before he passed, he put the responsibility on my shoulders to tell his story. Being here in this time and in this space and moment with Lee Daniels, Donald De Line, Little Marvin, and Warner Bros is an answered prayer. Teddy, I just hope we make you, your wife and family proud… Here we go!!”

Teddy Pendergrass’ career spanned over three decades as he released major hits such as “Close The Door,” and “I Can’t Live Without You.”

In 1982 Teddy was injured in a car accident where he suffered a spinal cord injury, leaving him a quadriplegic, and paralyzed from the chest down. Despite his injury, he continued to hit the stage.

He unfortunately passed in 2010 from respiratory failure. Tyrese served as one of the pallbearers at Teddy’s funeral.
