UK Researchers Say They’ve Found A Potential Coronavirus Cure–‘Dexamethasone Could Save Lives’

There may be a cure for COVID-19 y’all! According to BBC, there is a low-dose steroid treatment, dexamethasone, and it is making a major breakthrough, UK experts say.

This drug is reportedly part of “the world’s biggest trial testing existing treatments to see if they also work for coronavirus.”

It’s also alleged that UK experts believe that the drug could cut the risk of death by a third for patients on ventilators. Patients that are on oxygen will allegedly have deaths cut by a fifth.

Researchers also expressed that had the drug been used initially to treat patients in the UK, up to 5,000 deaths could have been prevented.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed optimism for the new drug that could possibly put an end to or help manage the Coronavirus. He stated there was reason to celebrate “a remarkable British scientific achievement.” He also added, “We have taken steps to ensure we have enough supplies, even in the event of a second peak.”

The UK government has 200,000 courses of the drug in its stockpile and says the NHS will make dexamethasone available to patients.

According to BBC, about 19 out of 20 patients with the disease recover without being admitted to the hospital. Those who are admitted almost recover but need a ventilator or oxygen to help them breathe

It’s also believed that dexamethasone would help with high-risk patients.

The drug has already been used to reduce inflammation in a range of other conditions and illnesses–arthritis, asthma, and skin conditions, according to reports. Dexamethasone also appears to help stop some of the damage that happens when the  immune system goes into overdrive to stop the spread of the virus.

As you know, Coronavirus made its way from Wuhan, China back in December 2019. It finally made its way to the U.S. and it was quarantine season for about three months for most.

States have started to relax quarantine regulations and businesses are slowly opening up, as people try to get comfortable with a new normal.

Face masks or coverings, hand sanitizer, and 6ft apart are all a natural part of our lives these days.
