Vanessa Williams Receives Apology 32 Years Later

Last night proved to be a dream come true to many people during the annual Miss America Pagaent. The winner of the night, Betty Cantrell (Georgia), definitely was the news of the night but the biggest MVP was definitely Vanessa Williams!

For all you don’t know, Vanessa Williams had resigned from her title as Miss America after nude photos were leaked back in 1983. The photos were published by Penthouse before she even began her reign but Williams was unfortunately pressured to step down.

Even though it was a  big blow, Miss Williams was still able to make a name for herself past the controversy over the years.

Well last night at the Miss America pageant, CEO Sam Haskell decided that it was time to make things up to Vanessa after all these years. He brought her up to the stage from her judge’s seat and issues her the most heartfelt apology for the way she was treated 32 years prior.

“Though none of us currently in the organization were involved then, on behalf of today’s organization, I want to apologize to you and to your mother, Miss Helen Williams. I want to apologize for anything that was said or done that made you feel any less than the Miss America you are and the Miss America you always will be!”

Sometimes an apology can heal even the deepest wounds. Roommates, do you think the apology was a little to late or right on time? Let’s chat below!
