Virginia Governor Declares A State Of Emergency Ahead Of Anniversary Of Charlottesville Protests

#Roommates, it’s been about a year since the violent protests went down in #Charlottesville where one woman was killed and others were injured while protesting a white supremacist rally in the #Virginia town.

Now Virginia Governor #RalphNortham and the city of Charlottesville have declared a state of emergency ahead of the official anniversary of the #UniteTheRight rally, which was sparked by the removal of a #Confederate statue.

There are reports that white supremacists will return to the town to hold another rally and Northam asked residents to “make alternative plans to engaging with planned demonstrations of hate,” ABC News reports. The declaration will allocate $2 million to pay for the response of law enforcement and the state’s #DepartmentofEmergencyManagement.

We’ll keep you updated on the latest, #Roommates.
