Wale Trends On Twitter After Dropping Out Of D.C’s Broccoli City Festival Due To Lack Of Respect

When it comes to respect, D.C. native Wale will not let anybody play with his name. Today the rapper began trending on Twitter after the Broccoli City Festival lineup was released, and he announced he was pulling out of the show. Other DMV natives, including Ari Lennox and Rico Nasty, are also on the lineup, but they don’t appear to be the headlining either day of the two-day festival. Wale, who is very active on Twitter, took the time to explain his frustrations.

One person asked why he was pulling out of the show, and he gave a simple response, “Respect is why.” Another person tweeted the rapper would get his flowers one day, and Wale stated, “I won’t. I’m convinced I won’t ever, but it’s good.” As the conversation continued, some Twitter users had Wale’s back and agreed that it was disrespectful not to have him headline as a D.C. native. Wale appreciated the support saying it meant a lot to him. He also clapped back at folks, saying he doesn’t have any current hits, hence why he shouldn’t be the headlining.

Wale has had a solid musical career, and his latest single, “Poke It Out,” featuring J. Cole, has been a favorite amongst listeners. Last November, the song debuted on the Billboard Charts Hot 100 list at number 79. Wale continued to double down that his issue wasn’t about headlining, but he said if you don’t stand for something or fall for anything.

Broccoli City Festival entered the conversation by tweeting, “We are looking to work something out with @Wale – he is a great artist that we respect! We will work something out! It’s love. We Black he Black – we all want to bring vibes to the city!”

Roomies, do you think a D.C. native should headline the festival?
