#Roommates, how much do you really love Walmart? Is it enough to have them come inside your house while youre away and restock your refrigerator? If the answer is yes, then youre in luck because the companys new grocery delivery service promises to do just that.
According @TodayShow, Walmart has officially launched Walmart InHome, a grocery delivery service that allows customers to have food delivered directly to their refrigerators and pantries. The service has launched in three cities to start, Pittsburgh, Kansas City and Vero Beach, Florida. It was initially tested back in 2017 and apparently did so well with customers that its set to become a permanent fixture nationwide.
If youre wondering how it all works or if youll have to leave a key underneath the mat for entry, its more high-tech than that. Walmart’s delivery system uses impressive smart technology. Customers must first purchase a $50 smart lock (which generally costs about $250) or a smart garage door kit, which Walmart will install free of charge. Then customers must sign up for the subscription for the service, which is around $20 a month.
As for the actual grocery delivery, it goes like this: customers place an online order or through the Walmart app, the delivery person is then given a unique code to unlock the smart lock during the delivery time provided. To keep things safe, the code only works one time and only during specific hours.
If you want even more security, theres an option allowing customers to watch the delivery via livestream from their smartphone. A minimum order of $30 per basket must be placed to be eligible for the delivery service.
Boxed, Shipt, FreshDirect, Instacart and Peapod all currently deliver groceries straight to your door, but none offer a direct-to-fridge service, making Walmart the first to do so.
