Walmart Releases Statement After Dozens Of People Received Email Blasts Containing Racial Slurs

Roommates, you know that saying ‘some people got too much time on their hands’? Well, it looks someone took that sentiment to a whole new level! An unidentified person took their sweet time to gather random emails and sign the account holders up to receive emails from Walmart. But — and here’s the interesting part — the person used the racial slur n****r in place of the account holders’ names. On Monday, dozens of people received a welcome email from Walmart prominently displaying the slur.

“We discovered that an external bad actor created false Walmart accounts with obvious intent to offend our customers,” a Walmart spokesperson reportedly told Business Insider.

After receiving the email, people flocked to Twitter by the dozens to share screenshots and question Walmart’s actions.Majority of those screenshots show a typical newsletter-formatted email. At the very top of the email, the racial slur is seen in black, bold letters saying: ‘Welcome to Walmart, N****r!’

The account holder’s real name is suppose to be where the racial slur is written. Further down in the email, the racial slur is seen again in a small paragraph aimed at convincing customers to shop with the retail giant.

The company also said in their statement that they are “shocked and appalled” at the “offensive and unacceptable emails.”

“We’re looking into our sign-up process to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again. We’re also looking into all available means to hold those responsible accountable.”

At this time, Walmart has not revealed the exact number of sign-ups it received with the racial slur. The company also hasn’t offered any additional details about our ‘lil troll. It remains unclear how the person received access to email addresses or if they meant to target a specific population.

Roomies, what do you think about Walmart receiving backlash over this incident?
