Walterboro 5th Grader Reportedly Passes Away After Suffering Serious Injuries From A School Fight

Roommates, we are praying for the family and friends of 5th grader RaNiya Wright, who sadly passed away this morning at a South Carolina Hospital, abc news 4 reports.
Wright was reportedly airlifted from her Forest Hills Elementary School classroom on Monday after she was involved in a fight with another student. She was unresponsive and in critical condition since Monday, the family said.
“We are devastated by this news, and we want our communities to keep their thoughts and prayers with the student’s family at this time,” a spokesperson wrote on the school district’s website.
Prior to RaNiya’s passing, a Colleton County teacher came out to attribute the situation to bullying. The teacher who asked to remain anonymous told abc4 that bullying is a huge problem in the district.
“I feel that our children aren’t safe,” she said. “My child had personally went through it on two different occasions. At one point she had to switch schools and it was not handled properly.”
Although the extent of young RaNiya’s injuries from the fight and the cause of her death are not yet available, the county coroner told abc4 an autopsy would happen on Friday morning.
As of now, the school district has deployed a crisis response team to the school as a form of support to students and staff. RaNiya’s family has started a GoFundMe to help her mother pay for medical and funeral expenses.
Let’s continue to keep the family and the children of the school district life in prayer, Roomies!
