Roommates, A New York City subway commute is already subject to delays, and commuters don’t need anything else getting in their way! Well, the NYPD is now searching for a man being called the ‘serial break-puller’, after many NYC subway lines have been delayed.
According to NBC News, police are looking for a black man in his 20’s, who they say has been intentionally pulling the emergency brakes on subways at the worst possible time–the peak of rush hour.
The MTA said the man is activating emergency brakes that are not available to commuters, meaning he somehow gets access to the operator’s car. After pulling the brake, the man flees the operator car and gets away through the train tunnels.
Authorities are unsure how the man may have gotten access to the keys, but say this incident has been happening for the past few months.
“It’s stupid. It’s stupid and selfish, and we intend to nail them,” said New York City Transit President, Andy Byford.
The MTA kept initial reports of the brake-pulling incidents quiet in an effort to avoid copycat offenders, but they are now calling on the help of the public to stop the brake-puller in his tracks.
“We suspect someone has intentionally disrupted thousands of commutes on the 2/3 lines today by activating multiple trains’ emergency brake,” the MTA tweeted. “If you see any suspicious behavior, please @ or DM us details ASAP, including car #, so we can get trains back on schedule.”
NYPD Chief of Detectives, Demot Shea says the investigation is ongoing, and any help from the public would be greatly appreciated!
