White Woman Who Claimed Emmett Till Harassed Her Admits To Lying

By now I’m sure we’ve all heard the story of Emmet Till. The 14-year-old boy was murdered in August 1955 by two white men, J.W. Milam and his brother Roy Bryant.

Emmett was in Mississippi visiting his family and had went to the local store to buy some gum. As he was walking out of the store, he allegedly whistled at Roy’s wife.

Back in that time racism was at an all time high and J.W. and Roy ended up beating and shooting Emmett to death, and left his body in a local river.

According to Vanity Fair, his accuser, Carolyn Bryant said that Emmett “had grabbed her and verbally threatened her. She said that while she was unable to utter the ‘unprintable’ word he had used … ‘he said [he had]’—done something – ‘with white women before.’”

Duke University senior research scholar, Timothy Tyson, reveals in his new book, “The Blood of Emmett Till”, at the age of 72, Carolyn admitted that she made that part up in her testimony.

She told Tyson the claims she made about Till harassing and her were “not true.”
