When it comes to Whoopi Goldberg, the award-winning actress will speak her mind. Today, Whoppi’s name is trending on Twitter after calling out Bill Maher for his insensitive comments about COVID-19. Friday on his HBO show, “Real Time,” Bill made jokes that Whoopi and others disagreed with.
The comedian said, “I don’t want to live in your paranoid world anymore — your masked, paranoid world. You go out — it’s silly now. You know you have to have your mask, you have to have a card, you have to have a booster.” While laughing, he continues saying, “They scan your head like you’re a cashier and I’m a bunch of bananas. I’m not bananas — you are.”
On this morning’s episode of ‘The View,’ Whoopi made it clear that the comments weren’t funny. Whoopi explained, “That’s not really funny to people who have lost their kids or people who have lost family members or dear friends to this.” The co-host continued, “Listen, nobody on the planet really wants to go through this. This is not something we’re doing because it’s sexually gratifying. This is what we’re doing to protect our families.”

She added, “You don’t have to do it, but stay away from everybody. I want to point out there are little kids who can’t get vaccinated. Lots of people who cannot get vaccinated, so you’re playing Russian roulette with their lives.” While Whoopi’s name keeps trending online, MSNBC national correspondent Joy-Ann Reid also disliked Bill’s comments. The correspondent tweeted, I’m with Whoopi. 860,000-plus people being dead isn’t silly or annoying. It’s tragic, and it’s still happening. Healthcare workers are overwhelmed and exhausted. They’d LOVE to be “over it,” I’m sure. But they’re not.” Roomies did Bill take it too far with his joke?!
