#Roommates, the current state of hip-hop has been a hot topic as of late. Many are saying its the #1 genre of music and is currently the most influential type of music to culture, period!
However, in a sit down with @RollingStone, #WillIAm is singing a completely different tune. According to him, hip-hop is actually not where it should be. He said: The problem with hip-hop is everybody could do it. It doesnt take much f*cking skill right now to make hip-hop. Its become the lowest-hanging fruit. Its no longer about Rakim-level, Nas-level, not the deep, metaphorical simile sh*t.
He also added: Out of respect for the Nases of the world, lets not call it hip-hop. Lets say thats rap. But instrumental music is going to be the next biggest sh*t.
#WillIAm has taken a step back from music but he has been very good about keeping his ear to the streets and working on other music projects behind the scenes. Ive learned when talking about the state of hip-hip it is is very much Wills argument. For hip-hop purists theyd say hip-hop is dead. For new rappers coming up, hip-hop is well and thriving.
Both are solid arguments, but whats the real tea here?! What is your take on this #Roommates?
