Will Smith Opens Up About His Reunion With Janet Hubert For The ‘Fresh Prince’ 30th Anniversary

If there is anything good that came out of 2020, it was the 30th anniversary of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” However, the one special moment that has been on everyone’s mind is Will Smith’s reunion with the original Aunt Viv, Janet Hubert.

Fans of the show got to see Will and Janet sit down to discuss their past issues, and start a new chapter of their relationship while celebrating the show’s milestone.

Now Will Smith is digging a little bit deeper inside of himself and confronting his past to better understand himself in the wake of this reunion. He took over the Red Table on Red Table Talk and was joined by clinical psychologist Dr. Ramani Durvasula.

During the episode, viewers were able to see both Will and Janet speak about their feud from their own perspectives, and during their meeting, Janet talked about the effects that happened in her life after she was replaced on the show.

While speaking with Dr. Durvasula, Will reflected on his role in the feud and opened up about his past family issues that later played a role in his life as an adult, and ultimately that reflected on his behavior earlier in his career, which eventually led to his falling out with Janet.

Will spoke about his father’s abuse towards his mother when he was a kid, and how he felt he needed to play a role of being funny to help limit the abuse. While coming to the realization of a few things, Will was able to see the parallels between his relationship with his real family and his television family.

He said, “Janet was Julliard trained. Janet can sing, she can dance, she can act, she’s brilliant, and she was in the parental figure. So my little boy desperately needed her approval.”
