Woman Makes The Guinness Book Of World Records For The Longest Fingernails Ever And Reveals It’s A Tribute To Her Late Daughter

Every day there are new entries into the Guinness Book of World Records, but the latest involves Diana Armstrong and her record-breaking fingernails that honor her late daughter. Recently registered as the longest fingernails ever recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records, Diana Armstrong revealed in a touching video that she grew them out following the untimely passing of her daughter over 20 years ago.

@HuffPost reports, Minneapolis resident Diana Armstrong has just made history and the Guinness Book of World Records made it official. Armstrong was recently named as having the longest fingernails of anyone ever, more than twice the length of the previous record-holder. Her official titles are “longest fingernails on a pair of hands (female)” and “longest fingernails on a pair of hands ever (female.)”  Her nails measure a jaw-dropping 42 feet, 10.4 inches long. However, Armstrong didn’t just decide to grow her nails as a hobby, as it was a heart-breaking family tragedy that led to her record-breaking growth.

Back in 1997, Diana Armstrong’s 16-year-old daughter, Latisha tragically passed away in her sleep after suffering an asthma attack. Armstrong explained that just the night before, her daughter stayed up to paint her nails and she has since been unable to cut them because they remind her of her daughter. “[My kids] never knew why I was growing them. I didn’t tell anybody. I kept it to myself until I finally told [my kids] why I was growing them. It made them feel bad, so I felt bad, so I just told them: ‘Y’all can tell me to cut my nails but I just can’t do it.’”

As she was receiving her formal honor from the Guinness Book of World Records, Armstrong was visibly emotional and she acknowledged how she hoped her daughter would feel if she were alive to see it.

“I think she [Tisha] would be proud of me because she’s the last one who did my nails. That’s who I think of when I grow my nails, is my daughter,” she said.
