Woman Who Received $50,000 Scholarship In Drake’s ‘God’s Plan’ Video Is Graduating With Her Master’s Degree

Roommates, do you remember the young lady who received a $50,000 scholarship in Drake’s ‘God’s Plan’ music video? Well, it looks like our good sis, whose real name is Destiny James, put the coins to very good use! A tweet started circulating on Wednesday comparing Destiny during the 2018 video and now. Turns out that later this week, Destiny will be graduating from the University of North Carolina’s Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health. Her master’s degree is in Public Health in Health Behavior.

“Public health has been a passion of mine since 2016 when my dad passed from stage 4 lung cancer,” Destiny told The Shade Room staff. “Obtaining this degree is something I will always be proud of! The obstacles I was able to overcome fueled my fire and I am so proud to say I am now a graduate of the #1 ranked public school for public health in the country.”

Destiny began her college studies at the University of Miami in 2015. She appeared in Drake’s video in February 2018. Her scene in ‘God’s Plan’ is short and intertwined with solo scenes of Drake rapping and scenes of grocery donations. Nonetheless, Destiny was filmed sitting on a wall ledge, looking straight ahead and smiling for the camera. Behind her, Drake is seen coming down a flight of stairs. When Destiny catches a glimpse of Drake, she gets off the wall and lets out a surprised noise. The two embrace. Then, they are seen holding a giant $50,000 check labeled “University of Miami Scholarship.” In her final appearance, Destiny is seen smiling and letting out, what seemed to be, a breath of relief for receiving the scholarship.

Check out this post for additional visual details:

Destiny graduated from the University of Miami in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree. Then in August 2019, Destiny went on to pursue her master’s at the University of North Carolina. On Tuesday, Destiny posted one of her graduation photos. She is pictured wearing a short, white dress accessorized by a slicked ponytail, dangling earrings and her master’s hood. In one hand she holds her cap, as she looks away from the camera and gives a beaming, open-mouth smile.

“Mama, I mastered it. Daddy, I did it,” Destiny partially captioned the post.

Drake commented under the post saying “LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DES.”

Roomies, let’s send Destiny congratulations for this accomplishment!
