While police were escorting a homicide suspect into custody, a group of New Yorkers gave the man a beating! At the time, he was a person of interest. In the latest update, prosecutors have formally charged 55-year-old Chad Irish with the death of Yazmeen Williams. Police recovered the 31-year-old’s body from black trash bags stuffed into a sleeping bag.

Irish is accused of dumping her on a New York City sidewalk for trash pickup. He faces charges such as “concealment of a corpse, criminal possession of a weapon, and menacing,” per ABC 7 NY. Police are reportedly still looking for a murder weapon and executing a search warrant of his apartment.

Details On New York City’s Sleeping Bag Case

According to NBC New York, Yazmeen Williams’ body was in a decomposing state as it sat on East 27th Street. Police discovered Williams after receiving complaints about a suspicious package with a foul smell amid a pile of trash bags.

As mentioned, examiners have already ruled the death a homicide, citing a gunshot wound to the head. Surveillance footage they recovered reportedly shows an individual believed to be Chad Irish in an electric wheelchair pulling the sleeping bag, per NBC.

Additional footage from a residence building (seen HERE) shows Irish seemingly dragging the body out of his doorway. He’s seen standing during this. For context, Chad is reportedly able to walk but uses a wheelchair to get around. After getting the sleeping bag out the door, he brought out the electric chair and attached the bag before pulling it down the hall.

Fox 5 New York captured footage of police escorting Irish out of a building as enraged neighbors punched and beat him in the head and body as he lay on a stretcher. Local Pix11 reports that neighbors spotted and restrained the man until police arrived.

The arrest occurred on Monday (July 8) near an area called Straus Houses. Cops and paramedics tried to keep the crowd at bay, but the blows kept coming!

Williams’ mother didn’t hold her tongue while speaking about Chad Irish amid the arrest, seemingly justifying the neighbor’s reactions.

“Hes disgusting he looks like scum,” Nicole Williams said. Regarding the angry neighbors, she said, “They were angry. He…took her life away…threw my daughter in a garbage bag.”

Pix11 added that Williams said the killer “took a young beautiful girl, snuffed her out, took her life away from her. Threw my daughter in a garbage bag. The whole community was upset because she didnt deserve that.”

ABC 7 NY reports that Williams and Irish knew each other and that she “stayed with” him occasionally, but the nature of their relationship is not yet public information. The outlet claims Irish has been arrested at least 21 times since the early 1990s.
