Young Thug Talks Lil Wayne With The New York Times

It’s been some time since we’ve heard about the status of Lil Wayne and Young Thug’s relationship. The last we heard, Young Thug and Birdman were being accused of being responsible for Lil Wayne’s tour bus being shot up back in April. Young Thug was also dragged by Lil Wayne fans on social media for attempting to name his mixtape Carter 6 after Lil Wanye’s Tha Carter V album continued to be pushed back.

In a recent interview with The New York Times the Atlanta rapper talked about the many misconceptions people have when it comes to his relationship with Lil Wanye and his intentions to honor the rapper.

In the interview he talked about why he originally wanted to name his project Carter 6. He labeled Lil Wayne as being one of his idols and he wanted to continue the series. In the past Lil Wayne has talked about Tha Carter V being the last of his Carter series. Young Thug said, “I’m not just being lame or trying to do something smooth. I told the whole world you my idol, and whenever you stop I’m gonna keep going.”

Back in July Birdman did an exclusive interview with Angie Martinez of Power 105.1 where he revealed that he had no involvement with Lil Wayne’s tour bus being shot up. Young Thug denied the same allegations by simply saying, “I got millions to get, I’m not running around shooting no damn bus.”

In the end it’s looking like Young Thug is proclaiming his innocence and what he thought was paying homage to one of his idols came off as complete disrespect. This comes at a time when there is on going legal drama between Lil Wayne and Birdman.
