Beyonce's Ivy Park Team Denies Claims That Factory Is A Sweatshop

Beyonce’s Ivy Park Team Denies Claims That Factory Is A Sweatshop

Rumors have been floating around that Beyonce’s Ivy Park line has been running a sweatshop in its Sri Lanka factory –according to The Sun, but her camp is denying all claims.

The sun reported that “poverty-stricken seamstresses [make] some of the clothes in the MAS Holdings factory in Sri Lanka [and] earn just £4.30 a day,” which equates to about $6 in USD.

They went on to say that the workers are mostly young women from poor rural villages and have to work 60+ hours in a week just to make ends meet. In fact, they can’t even afford to buy the very articles of clothing they make.

Sounds pretty intense, right?!

Once Bey’s camp caught wind of the story, they released a statement saying:

“We are proud of our sustained efforts in terms of factory inspections and audits, and our teams worldwide work very closely with our suppliers and their factories to ensure compliance.”

Most, if not all of us working Americans would turn up our noses at $6/hr pay. However, according to Women’s Wear Daily, minimum wage in Sri Lanka is a whopping $2.68 –suggesting that technically the workers are receiving double their normal pay.

The Sun further alleges that workers refuse to confirm claims in fear that they will lose their jobs.
