Adidas Honors Jackie Robinson By Giving Him a Signature Shoe & Building a Baseball Stadium at His High School

Adidas better come through for Jackie Robinson #Roommates! The company will be releasing a set of special cleats to honor the 70th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking Major League Baseball color barriers.

According to Sole Collector, “the shoes are commemorative makeups of the Adizero Afterburner 4 and Icon Trainer silhouettes. Designs on both shoes were inspired by two photos of Robinson taken at the beginning and end of his storied baseball career at Ebbets Field.”

What’s even better is that the company built a new softball and baseball field at Robinson’s old high school, John Muir High, to celebrate the occasion. In addition to the new fields, special edition Jackie Robinson-inspired uniforms and cleats will be given by Adidas to baseball and softball teams at John Muir High School for their games on Jackie Robinson Day on April 15th.

“Jackie Robinson changed the game of baseball forever,” said Tauna Dean, director of Adidas Social Purpose. “He showed us what breaking barriers looks like. We believe that through sport, we have the power to change lives and we want to help positively impact lives by removing barriers to sports for kids who might not have an opportunity to play otherwise. This new baseball and softball field is just one small way we can help our sports community.”

According to SGB Media, the new fields were built by 20 Adidas employee volunteers.
