Kyrie Irving Pays The Tuition For A Sick Student At His Former High School

NBA star Kyrie Irving is giving back to a student from his former high school in a major way.

According to Zags Blog, 12-year old Spencer Joyner, who attends The Patrick School in Elizabeth, NJ was diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri last November. The condition can result in, “moderate to severe headaches and brief episodes of blindness.”

Irving who played at St. Patrick’s High School prior to it becoming The Patrick School learned about Joyner’s condition and wanted to help.

Due to his condition Joyner is currently struggling to walk, which has resulted into him not being able to attend school. After learning about his condition, Irving offered to pay for his tuition, which is $11,000 for the school year.

Irving said, “It’s very important, especially if you have the means to do it. I’m just thankful that I have a great support system and great financial team that allows [me] to give back to our community and support those kids, not only just the athletes but the students that we have at the school.”

Mel Joyner, Spencer’s father, suspects that Irving may have also paid off a $1,200 medical bill that somehow disappeared. He said, “That mysteriously disappeared. We were putting two and two together and said, ‘Maybe it’s [Irving].”
