Snapchat Apologizes For Their Insensitive Ad Involving Rihanna And Chris Brown

Snapchat has been facing backlash after one of their recent ads seemed to make fun of Rihanna and Chris Brown’s domestic violence incident from 2009.

During one of their ads for a game of “Would You Rather”, users were asked if they preferred to “Slap Rihanna” or “Punch Chris Brown.” Since then the ad has been removed, and Snapchat has offered their apologies, stating that the ad was “in error.”

They released a statement to BBC News and said, “The advert was reviewed and approved in error, as it violates our advertising guidelines. We immediately removed the ad last weekend, once we became aware. We are sorry that this happened.”

The site outlined Snapchat’s guidelines for their ads, which reads, “All ads are subject to our review and approval. We reserve the right to reject or remove any ad in our sole discretion for any reason. We also reserve the right to request modifications to an ad, and to require factual substantiation for any claim made in an ad.”
